Phil the Llama's Haircut

Phil got a haircut. What do you think?

Hey look!

Yeah, it's Friday.

Caloenas nicobarica

Isn't this little guy beautiful?

It's a Caloenas nicobarica, or The Nicobar Pigeon. It's native to the uninhabited Nicobar Islands in the Indian Ocean. I wonder how they found it, then...

Patches the Horse

Always on Watch provides the afternoon entertainment. The video is only a few minutes long, but it's a good one. Go watch Patches the Horse. You'll have a smile on your face the rest of the day.

American Cat

Wandering over at this foreign blog, I stumbled upon a picture captioned american cat:

Somehow, that just seems to fit all too well. Maybe the cat should be a little fatter and lying down more...

Not a Llama

Another lesson on some of your basic animals groups. This is NOT a llama.

Poltergeist Lemur

Another little fellow from the zoo with his head on backwards.

Turtles in Action

So, I'm at the zoo last weekend, minding my own business, winding my way through the massive numbers of fat people who all decided to visit the zoo on the same day (seriously, there were literal piles of obese people there that day); and I was peeking through some leaves to see if I could spot any birds, and what should I spot, but two turtles.

Now, my first thought was, "Gee, that one turtle sure is moving a lot for a turtle." Then I noticed the other turtle. All the adults nearby who noticed all looked at one another as if saying, "Are you seeing what I'm seeing?" No nearby kids asked and questions, but I had the camera ready. After all, how often do you get to see two turtle going at it? Seriously.

And I don't know why, but when I snapped this shot, I thought, "You know who would really get a kick out of this picture? Tammi." Why did I think that? I have no idea. We'll have to wait for Tammi to stop by and see what she has to say about it.

The Lion

And here is her mate, just relaxing and waiting for someone to feed him, I think.

The Lioness

A relaxing member of the NC Zoo from this past weekend. Very nice teeth, eh?

I couldn't get the focus just right because I was actually standing about 80 yards away from this nice beast while taking the picture.

There's more pictures to come, with Tammi's picture up tomorrow afternoon.

Pretty Bird

I know about cat blogging and dog blogging. I wonder if there's bird blogging, too? Well, it doesn't really matter, I'm getting some really good photographs of the birds who are currently visiting my house. And it might help to relax you a little after reading all the polticial and news postings, right?

This tiny fellow is rather bright for this time of year, but here he is anyway. He came to visit as part of a flock of, oh, about 100 birds. Well, maybe not that many, but there was quite a mob of these fellows outside this morning. Enjoy the colors, and as usual, click to enlarge (massively):
