Site Meter Ogre's Politics & Views: Democrat Conflict of Interest?

Jeff Taylor, over at The Meck Deck usually blogs on local issues of concern to Charlotte and politics and government. Now he's mentioned some actions of a state legislator -- he draws the picture but doesn't connect the dots. I'll connect the dots and you tell me if anything looks strange to you.

1. Rep. Mary McAllister (D) votes to give thousands of dollars to a non-profit organization called "Operation Sickle Cell." In total, the non-profit organization receives at least $343,683 from North Carolina, and a total of $465,794 from government sources (taxpayer money).
2. Operation Sickle Cell has as it's executive direction, one Mary McAllister (one and the same). Her salary for last year was $115,000.

You see, the actual stated salary of a North Carolina Legislator is around $30,000. It's supposed to be a part-time job and people are supposed to earn their livings elsewhere. But take a look in the parking lot of the general assembly and tell me what you'll find there. I'll give you a clue, it's not going to be a rusted-out pickup truck.

So yes, Rep. McAllister actually votes to take MORE taxpayer money from workign people via higher taxes -- so she can then vote to give it to a "non-profit" organization -- which then gives her a large sum of money. I wonder if Ms. McAllister is the "Executive Director" of any other "non-profits" -- or how many Democrats in the Legislature are also "Executive Directiors."

Democrat-led North Carolina government -- stinking worse than hog lagoons for decades.
