Ogre's Politics & Views: navigable waters

Just a quick example this morning on how screwed up our government really is. You're going to be VERY hard-pressed to explain this away as anything other than complete and total insanity. Did you know that until yesterday, the United States Army regulated ROADSIDE DITCHES -- because they were considered "navigable waters?"

I'm just beyond words. There is no sanity in government today. Term limits now.

And Robert, I guess the people in CA haven't seen your blog -- I'm pretty sure that flying the rebel flag is cause for arrest in that state!

Are you aware that the Interstate highway system was devised for military purposes?
And ditches are needed to drain dirt and gravel roads to prevent them from being impassable. Also, larger ditches as canals were important to transport until the railroads came.
Armies, since the day of Rome, have always built roads. To this day, Forbes Road, built by General Forbes in order to attack Fort Duquenne, is used...the Pennsylvania turnpike parallels Forbes road, but thanks to tunnels doesn't go over the same passes.
However, I agree: The laws should have been changed 60 years ago...

Yes, that and the intercoastal waterway were for the military...but yes, they were way out when regulating a drainage ditch in front of my house!
